BOTANY
I have extensive community service and governance background alongside my public relations management career.
In 2014 I stood as the Labour Party canadidate for Botany.
I am a resident of Howick, and I have a strong affiliation with ethnic groups, particulary Chinese, Indian, Korean, Russian, Middle Eastern and Pacifika.
I am passionate about Auckland and committed to working across political boundaries to achieve the best for Howick and its people.
Kia ora. I am a retired secondary school teacher. I have been a Department manager, Education Advisor and consultant in New Zealand overseas.
I have lived in Howick for 17 years and believe that the rapid development and change in the area has left much of the Ward in need of a greater sense of community in order to provide for the many different cultures living here.
I believe that the Howick Local Board needs to be more responsive to the community, to be more accessible and proactive so that neighbourhood concerns and needs can be discussed and addressed.
I believe that one of the most pressing concerns is that of efficient and rapid public transport that will reduce the commuter traffic on local roads.
As a member of the Howick Local Board I will lobby for improved public transport and community facilities throughout the Ward.

I live in Flat Bush, in the Howick Local Board, and currently employed as a Medical Underwriter for Southern Cross since 2007. Prior to this from 2000 – 2006, I worked in different capacities at various Aged-Care facilities in Australia & NZ.
I am also involved with various voluntary and charitable organisations. As Chairperson of New Zealand Sikh Women Association, we provide support to women & children within South & East Auckland community since 2002. I am passionate about helping and looking after our elderly, so I am a member of the board of Life’s Charitable Trust NZ.
The most pressing issues affecting the Botany Community is our appalling public transport. I wish to help alleviate this problem and enable other effective public transport systems, and raise awareness over the social and local issues affecting the elderly in the Botany community.
Also, as a Board member, I would encourage development of a local community centre for community use.
Kia ora. I am a married father of two living in Botany. I currently work in publishing, and have previously worked as a High School teacher.
As a member our Local Board, I will press for the development of a local meeting space and better public transport amenities for East Auckland.
Currently there are few adequate spaces available to cater to our diverse community, such as a town hall or rentable rooms. Such public spaces are as vital as local newspapers and schools, and can only serve to benefit our local economies and develop networks within our community.
Our access to the rest of Auckland via motorways and public transport is under-funded and under-served. We deserve better transport than we currently have in East Auckland, and I will lobby for proactive progress.
Tēnā koutou katoa, I am married and we live with our two children in Flat Bush. Currently, I am a Health Protection/Technical Officer with the Auckland Regional Public Health Services. I am serving as a Justice of the Peace since 2013.
It is evident that Botany/Howick boasts as one of the fastest growing diverse communities in Auckland, therefore, the demands for more visionary approach and preparedness exists.
As a Board member I’ll strive to ensure our environment is supplemented with efficient accessibility of public transport, more recreational facilities and more activities for ageing population, thus, eliminating health issues.
With more than 30 years of experience working in the politically driven Local Government, the District Health Board and disciplined force in New Zealand and overseas, I have acquired varied levels knowledge, self-confidence and an insight as to what is achievable and to prioritise in addressing appropriately.
I have proven ability in dealing with people of all ethnicities. Impartiality in my work has never been over powered by political pressures and I have a continued passion for deliverance when it matter s to people’s life and well-being.

TANIA MAHONEY
PAKURANGA
I am New Zealand born Croatian who has lived 35 years in the Howick Local board area most of those in Pakuranga. I am married with two teenage children who have attended local schools.
I run my accounting business from home in central Pakuranga and have been in business 22 years and prior to that was working in corporate accounting roles.
I am studying towards a Masters Degree in Psychology Health Practice in Violence and Trauma, and for the last 3 years I have also done voluntary work with Vic Tamati for Safe Man Safe Family in helping the organisation to co-ordinate the community connections and programme development for perpetrators and support for families affected by domestic violence, mental health and other challenges.
I believe Pakuranga needs to regain the community spirit it had when I begun work at the mall and that the communities that make up the Howick Local board work together to encourage a cohesive strong community and respect for each other and the cultural diversity that makes up this area. Our community is not what it was 30 years ago and we need fresh faces to represent us that address the issues created by that change.

PAKURANGA
I want to bring to the local board greater representation of the growing multi-cultural and tangata whenua face of the ward.
I am an ordained Anglican minister serving South Auckland, in addition I have held positions on numerous health and social services organisations at the governance level overseeing and implementing in particular a ‘whanau ora’ model, I have managed iwi Treaty of Waitangi settlements, and a wide range of educational, criminal offending rehabilitation and local economic development initiatives.
I live in the new area of Flat Bush Mission Heights which is vibrant because of its ethnic diversity. I have a concern for housing affordability, the concerns of our elderly struggling to meet the costs of living, affordable and frequent public transport access and wider consultation and engagement at the community level.
I have a special interest in promoting the cause of iwi as tangata whenua and how local historical and cultural sites are preserved and maintained and that the stories about these places are made know. I believe New Zealand as a whole benefits by a real commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi.
